The Rochester Dance Company is thrilled to bring you their smashing spring production, RISE.

RISE is an eclectic dance performance put together under the artistic direction of four Minneapolis-based choreographers: Joanie Mix, Lindsay Bullock, Carrie Homuth and Jennifer Mack. Through the hour and a half-long performance, the characters dig their way out of a desperate, bleak world by taking action and brilliantly banding together. As they perform jazz, modern, ballet and contemporary dance styles, these characters articulate the idea of power and strength in numbers. The result is a pathway to a more peaceful, thriving future. The creators of RISE attempt to send a message of hope to uplift the currently weighed-down morale of the general public due to real issues such as unemployment and homelessness. They hope to provide young people with the inspiration to take action in their communities to rebuild their lives and the lives of others to make for a stronger, better future. This show would be best enjoyed by teenagers and young adults. However, with the energetic soundtrack and graceful images captured through movement on the stage, there is a little something for everyone to take home from RISE.

This activity is funded by the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council through the Minnesota arts and cultural heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.
